LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE MOVES REP. MINER’S PROPOSAL TO PROTECT STATE HUNTING LAND FORWARD
HARTFORD- On Monday, March 2, the Legislature’s Environment Committee, approved a motion to draft legislation introduced by State Rep. Craig Miner, R-Litchfield, that would maintain the amount of state land where hunting is permitted. House Bill 5209 now awaits further committee action.
HB 5209 would prohibit the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) from reducing the amount of state land where hunting is permitted without providing for an equal amount of such land elsewhere and that such amount of land not be less than the percentage of state land permitted for hunting as of July 1, 2008.
“The State of Connecticut is very fortunate to have such a diverse population with a wide variety of interests,” said Rep. Miner. “Hunters and environmentalists alike know the value each brings to the balance of uses and the support of the ecosystems themselves. This legislation will only help maintain that balance to the mutual benefit of all.”

Representative Miner represents the towns of Bethlehem, Litchfield, Morris, Warren and Woodbury in the General Assembly.
